Excessive dog barking should cost you in RVA

This needs to happen in our neck of the woods, as I sit here and listen, once again, to the incessant barking from the pitbull next door! Now I know that Cali is well known for leading the way in many respects, and to this I say a big KUDOS! but did RVA area officials ever consider the amount of income they could take from some of these dog owners, like the one next door, instead of wasting revenue on having to respond to the constant calls of frustrated neighbors for the last 6 months! Even a couple of the officers who have had to deal with these constant complaints here in our block, have expressed a desire, to be able to ticket these owners at some point, but there hands are tied with the same red tape people like you me are tied up with, so wise up city and county of RVA!!

Games are not just kidstuff!

Along with my music ventures, I have also been involved in hosting a fashion game network for people who like to play games, like dressing up virtual dolls. Almost 2 years ago, altho I am pretty adept at websites, the art of graphics escaped me. Then I started to play one doll game in particular, that has taught me tons about graphics, and has enabled me to finally learn, and grasp this media, while taking the designs that have been in my head so long, and being able to actual implement them into a visual creation.

Many people think games are just for kids, but they are wrong. I am 59, and am having the time of my life both learning and entertaining myself in this world of online virtual playgrounds.

Think again, if you think games are just for kids. You are and will be missing an amazing experience, and the ability to make friends with many like minded individuals.

Save loads of money by shopping direct through merchants

I just noticed the other day that we have a Direct Buy here in Richmond. Actually there are 5 locations in Richmond, Chesapeake, Roanoke, Woodbridge, and
Chantilly
and I wondered if anyone has checked it out yet. I have heard good things about it and that they have really good deals on all kinds of furniture.

If any of you have ever shopped at Direct Buy Chantilly, or any other one of the stores in the area, please leave some comments and tell us what you think!

New Resource - The Tin Whisker

If you like forums, a new one can be found at The Tin Whisker, run by Daniel Deckelman aka The Rats, Rocket 69, Route 1 South) and you should check it out.

Our senior writer Cindy Johnson is "moonlighting" there. Here is an insert from one of her posts about the band BoneAnchor:

Boneanchor played to a full house at the Triple this weekend. It was a return engagement and the Triple was standing room only on both occasions. This three piece band has a loyal and consistent fan base. I have seen Boneanchor perform many times but have never felt comfortable trying to articulate their style and allure. I could never put my finger on the right words, but here goes. The band members, Morgan, Tom and Wrenn form such a blend of talent it’s hard to place them in any single type of genre. They perform originals and covers spanning several decades with such originality and flare it will make you never hear that cover the same way again.

To read more of this article and check out the forum, go to BoneAnchor

Read Our First Venue Review - Triple Threat

Cindy Johnson aka Elvistra has kindly hooked MRVA up with the first of what we hope to be many venue reviews. Please follow the link RockArmyMusic to the MusicRVA Writers Blog to see it!

If you would like Elvistra to review your venue, leave a comment with info and let us know.

Any other aspiring writers out there, we are always looking for writers, and not just for shows. You can review/interview bands, cd's, venues, bars, and more, if it's RVA Entertainment, we will find a place for it.

Check out the front page of MusicRVA.com, fill out and send in the writers form, and I will send you a response.

If you would just like to send in random commentaries, or copy, that's cool too, we want to hear from our region, which includes the regional coastline and surrounding area. You can leave comments here on any of the blogs, or contact us by using the writers form mentioned above, almost all submissions are published.

I'm a DirectTV Believer

After years of being ripped off by cable companies, we finally got the best out there, in my opinion, DirectTV. Why you might ask, well because since we have had our satellite, we have been happier, we don't fight over channels (DVR) and there is no longer a need for a vcr (nor the cost of buying tapes to record on), not to mention there is less downtime and outages, unlike cable.

We have 100 XM Music stations, great movies without commercials, and awesome shows from England which were not available with cable. Direct Tv has introduced us to shows we never knew existed, as well as enabled us to recieve shows we only wished we could get with cable.

Here are some more facts about directtv, then here are more:

DirecTV will offer a free High Definition DVR.

There are fewer outages on average than Cable and tend to be remedied very fast.

Movie Channels galore, even ones that are only available through DirectTV.
They have better pricing for the same service levels as cable, plus Pay-Per-View and On-Demand services.

Music Channels like XM Satellite Radio music, directtv is the very best in this arena.

Local Channels are available via DirectTV Satellite also.

A wide array of multi-lingual options are available on satellite that you just can't get with cable. DirectTV offers 15+ international type packages for International Channels

I could go on, and why am I praising direct tv Satellite?, because we have been customers of DirectTV now for about 2 years, and everyday I thank myself for getting rid of cable. I was especially sick of seeing all these programs in the paper TV guide that we just simply could not get, not even for a bigger price. Prices, yes we felt ripped off, but at first thought, if we switch to Satellite and don't like it, what then. Let me tell you, it was immediatly apparant that we had done the right thing.

Why am I telling you about direct tv and satellites, because it is my mission to stop all my friends and readers from continuing to get ripped off by cable. I get nothing out of it, except the pleasure that I may have made someones life happier and better.

Don't take my word for it, do a little research on your own. Next time you see that commercial that says "Stop Cable Theft", I want you to remember that YOU are the one being ripped off, and think of getting a Direct TV satellite instead!

Been A Long Time Coming.........

I have been in the process of, or in comtemplation of, completely remodeling all my sites for the last several years. This has been put off, and put off, due to health reasons, for the last several years as well.

Well the time has finally come, and I can no longer let my health stop me from doing what needs be done. Starting with MusicRVA, which is actually the original Alley Katz site, I will begin devoting a few hours a day to just this site.

I am already on a host, so I can get all those pages on free servers over to the main one eventually, altho the free sites will stay where they are for ranking and traffic reasons, but the new domain name will be posted on the site, as well as the servers will hopefully redirect everything to the actual domain, if I know what I am doing LOL!

With that said, there will be some surprises for my fellow Richmonders, as I have also been working on some communications tools, that will connect Richmond bands, venues, and other music related sources together. I am hoping at the very least, that this will be my Christmas present to the Richmond music community.

With sincere love for all the bands and venues I have worked with here in Richmond over the years, I very much regret that my physical presence in the music scene here has been thwarted by illness, and I know many of you have wondered if I still even reside in the area as I have been for the most part invisable, but I have been here all along, helping when I can, and still work with a few bands individually over the internet in a couple places like here and Los Angeles. As a matter of fact, Krell is still alive and well and living in LA, with much success.

So, I have been behind the scenes, even if you don't see me LOL. My PC has become my life, instead of the inside of a club. When I worked in management at venues such as the Floodzone, I literally spent from 12PM everyday, to around 3 or 4AM in them, I practically lived there, and pretty much any other venue I had any authorization over. My venue was my House, as they say in the club arena, and I miss it with all my heart, and music has always been the biggest part of my life, and will always be.

So on that note, let me go get some work done.

Angela
